Pregnancy Brain

It seems that everything I read is related to pregnancy now that my sister's first baby is due in late June, my cousin will have her second (first-try) baby six weeks later, and quite a few friends are also due this summer. This article really made me think about the differences between pregnancy and adoption; it talks about how the hormone changes during pregnancy get the brain ready for mothering. My brain won't have that time to prepare. I don't doubt that I will eventually love my child completely, but will it take me longer? Will I not be as attached? Or as protective? When will those hormones kick in? How long will it take my brain to figure out I'm a mom too?... I am so excited about adopting someday, but I am also realizing how different it will be from everyone else's experience.

  1. We adopted on January 12. Will you attach? Yes. Will it be slow in coming? Maybe...but it can be slow in coming if you give birth. Will you be protective? Yes. Immediately - so no worries there.

It is different, but if you believe in God, I think He prepares you while you wait...

    Trust me...
